Dark Puddles Companions: Omegadon

A rare shoulder companion with direct flight control, Dimorphodon flock commands, and craftable sticky explosives.

Meet Omegadon, a rare shoulder companion with black coloring, baby-blue wing edges, maroon accents, an aggressive crest, and blade-like wings.

Pair an Omegadon Possession Idol to take direct control of his flight. Dive toward your target, call nearby Dimorphodons, and issue attack, regroup, and detonation commands. His flock commands target Dimorphodons, not other Omegadons or unrelated tames. Press Use at any time to hand control back to your survivor- E on keyboard, Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation.

Craft the Possession Idol, DP Detonator, sticky charges, and sticky timed grenades at a Smithy after learning their level-30 engrams.

You pair the idol you are using: hold it, look at the Omegadon you want, and choose the pair option on its use menu. A paired idol renames itself to show that companion's name and level, so you can always tell which creature it is bound to, and the pairing survives server restarts. Re-pair the same idol whenever you want to switch to a different Omegadon.

To arm a bird, equip the DP Detonator, look at one of your Dimorphodons, and throw a charge onto it. Attach sticky detonated charges to your Dimorphodons this way, then send your flock into action and detonate their attached charges together using the DP Detonator or Omegadon's Detonate command. Detonate triggers the attached explosives; it does not make Omegadon explode. The explosions damage the carriers but do not automatically kill them. Dimorphodons bred and leveled with enough health can survive the blast and return with the flock.

The charges otherwise behave like regular C4, so they are not limited to flock runs stick them to structures and surfaces and set them off the same way.

Sticky timed grenades are a separate option: they explode after four seconds or on creature impact. To drop them while piloting, load them into Omegadon's own inventory before you take off bomb drops are pulled from the creature's inventory, not your survivor's. Each drop uses one grenade, with a one-second cooldown between drops.

Calling the flock takes your own Dimorphodons, with a 1.5 second cooldown between calls. Wild Dimorphodons will also answer, but only stay for about 60 seconds from your most recent call call again to keep them. Sticky charges go on your own tamed Dimorphodons; wild birds are extra bodies, not carriers.

Omegadon is configured to appear in approximately 5% of new normal and Aberrant Dimorphodon spawns. Existing creatures are unchanged.

New in this update

  • A paired idol now renames itself to show the companion's name and level, so you can see at a glance which Omegadon it is bound to.
  • Pairing now survives server restarts.
  • Possession now auto-returns you at 1.5 km instead of leaving you stuck with no way back.
  • Fixed: running or jumping with the idol equipped could trigger possession.

The first standalone creature in the Dark Puddles Companions series. .
