Demolition (Demo) Hammer is a mid-game upgrade for gathering minerals:
- Stone
- Flint
- Metal
- Crystal
- Obsidian
- Oil
- Salt
- Sulfur
- Sand
As a special bonus it gathers large amounts of Thatch and a decent amount of Tree Sap from Redwood Trees (about a stack per tree).
Asset Info:
It is a clone of the Chainsaw - for now, it shares animations but has its own 3d model (essentially the Chainsaw core, but swapped the bar and chain for a demolition hammer shaft and bit) and as of v1.3 has its own sound effects (quick and dirty for now - may replace with improved sound files in future update).
Harvesting Info:
In general, it follows the same harvesting concept of the chainsaw - approximately 2.5-3x multiplier on harvested resources with some tweaks to keep it balanced.
Harvesting Note - In most cases, resource nodes that yield two or more resources (such as trees yielding wood and thatch or rocks yielding stone and flint plus small chance of metal) the melee harvesting is divided into two tools - the Hatchet (which yields more wood/stone) and the Pickaxe (which yields more thatch/flint/metal). The problem with trying to apply that to minerals is that the Chainsaw (which is the upgrade to the Hatchet) does not harvest stone. To compensate for this, the Demo Hammer will harvest equal amounts of stone and flint on stone harvest components.
On specific mineral harvest components (such as metal, crystal, obsidian) it has been configured to gather the primary resource more efficiently and reduce the amount of the secondary resources to help minimize how often you have to dump unwanted byproducts while gathering. For example - during testing on crystal nodes (on vanilla settings), the Demo Hammer may gather ~30-60 crystal but only ~10-15 stone | compared to a pickaxe which normally gathers more stone than crystal. This behavior is intended to offer a trade off - more efficient gathering of minerals with reduced byproducts at the cost of no weight reduction and utilization of the player's weight instead of an Anky/Doed. This should finally make caves with narrow entrances viable for harvesting crystal/metal/etc. (so long as you have some mount(s) to help carry out the load).
Planned Harvest Components to add:
*in question
- Sand (from sandstone, not pickup nodes)
- AB Gems
- Element Ore
- Silica (hard node from Extinction)
- Bone (keratin | *org poly?)
- *Organic Poly? (Penguin/Mantis/Ragnarok beached corpses | chainsaw already does this - swap?)
- *Clay? (are there hard nodes, or just pickup nodes? - should probably not apply to any pickup nodes)
- *Cactus? (Chainsaw already gathers efficient cactus sap, should it be swapped to Demo Hammer or just leave it alone?)
Additional Feature Concepts:
- Structure Demolition Mode - Quickly demolish owned placed structures for recovering 100% materials)
- Individual toggles for harvested resources - Similar to Anky, but ideally can turn on/off as many/few as you prefer while not being tied to only one selection
Version 1.4 Notes and Known Bugs
- Latest patch resolved fixes to third person Rig animations, added some biome specific Harvest Components for Metal, Crystal, and Obsidian, and some improvements to SFX
- The third person animations need some re-work from the Chainsaw defaults to make them more akin to how you would hold/use a Demo Hammer (pointing tip towards target)
- Should Demo Hammer harvest corpses (like a pick axe equivalent of the chainsaw) or does it make little sense to trade repair resources (metal, poly, cp, electronics) for more raw meat?
