UPDATE - 10/18/2025: Unfortunately, I had deleted the DevKit last month thinking that my files were stored somewhere else as I needed more space on my PC, and I believe that means I have lost access to the files of all my mods despite reinstalling the Devkit again at this moment. If I ever make a new version of this mod, this mod will be renamed to Legacy, as the new version would have to be built from the ground up.

Do you love cats, but wish they could glow in the dark? Well – you’re in luck, because this mod is here to deliver you some glowing cats on the “broken ARK” known as Aberration.

These Aberrant Cats are not like any other cats found on the tropical beaches of the Island or shores of The Center. Of course, these Aberrant Cats can glow, are extremely friendly as stray cats, and come in four different pattern types: Normal, Spotted, Striped, and Calico. These fantastic cats can breed with all their coat patterns, and have even been seen to breed with Friendly Cats and felines from the other ARKs, despite not displaying the beautiful glowing patterns these Aberrant felines possess.

To tame, they love the taste of rare mushrooms, but even more so, a pungent concoction known as Plant Species Z Milk. Rumor has it that these cats love the radiation immunity this creamy substance gives them, allowing them to hunt featherlights in the element chamber down far below. When tamed, some have even said that these cats have unusual abilities compared to their non-Aberrant counterparts. Those who love the practice of spelunking have grand remarks about their cats scaring all sorts of new creatures – from onyc, to lamprey, and even purloiva – perhaps their glowing pattern makes them much more threatening when using their pest control ability? But don’t be too overconfident – the ugly creatures called the “Nameless” aren’t fooled by the cats’ screech. Nonetheless, that still isn’t what makes them so special. The spelunkers have discovered that Aberrant Cats can hold artifacts – are we sure these cats aren’t experiments of Rockwell himself with all these “aberrant” capabilities?

Mod Information
  • Aberrant cats spawn off of aberrant lystrosaurus, so any map that has them, they should automatically piggyback off of them for spawns. Currently, the spawn weights are 80% chance for aberrant lystrosaurus and 20% chance for an aberrant cat (5% chance for each variant).
  • They will always roll “Happy” when trying to tame them, so gone is the frustration of getting your face ripped off – as long as you don’t punch them accidentally.
  • This mod adds a new item called Plant Species Z Milk, which is crafted in your inventory. This is the kibble of all aberrant cats, but they can be less effectively tamed using rare mushrooms, too. The modifiers are set up to mimic the effectiveness of the lightpets.
  • Plant Species Z Milk can only be consumed by humans (besides taming cats) and acts like aquatic, auric, and aggeravic mushrooms combined - as in, consumption gives immunity to poisonous mushrooms and removes poisonous mushroom debuffs/radiation sickness.
  • They are able to hold artifacts like otters.
  • Aberrant cats can now mate with all four types of Aberrant Cats, Friendly Cats (from Cat Distribution System), and Vanilla Cats. The female determines what coat pattern the kittens will have.
  • Their pest control list is as follows: Icthyornis, pegomastax, microraptor, titanomyrma, meganeura, compy, dimorphodon, purlovia, leech, lamprey, worker bees, and piranha.
