Moro's Gigantophis (Freemium)

Adds The Gigantophis, a large prehistoric snake.

Moro's Gigantophis

Mod ID: 1123428

After seven months of development, complicated snake-movement programming, and plenty of brain-melting problem-solving, I am proud to present Moro's Gigantophis!

Gigantophis introduces a massive prehistoric snake to ARK with fully custom dynamic tail physics, fluid movement, multiple combat stances, unique taming, creature swallowing and digestion, tree climbing, constriction, hypnosis, tail-mounted weapons, randomized patterns, and much more.

Creature Overview

Gigantophis was an enormous prehistoric snake that lived in ancient wetland environments. In ARK, it serves as both an aggressive wild predator and a highly versatile mid-to-endgame companion.

Its movement system was built specifically for this creature and uses 100% custom dynamic tail physics to create smooth, snake-like movement instead of relying on traditional rigid creature locomotion.

Gigantophis can fill several roles:

  • Close-range combat: Powerful bites, tail attacks, grabs, and constriction.
  • Taming support: Hypnotize targets and rapidly increase their torpor.
  • Ranged combat: Equip a Gatling Gun or Pulse Gun tail attachment.
  • Survival and escape: Shed its skin to remove debuffs, recover, move faster, and distract enemies.
  • Utility and loot: Swallow creatures, digest them, and produce redeemable loot pellets.
  • Traversal and ambush: Climb redwood trees and attack from elevated positions.

Major Features

  • Fully custom dynamic snake and tail physics.
  • Multiple switchable movement and combat stances.
  • Basic Bite, Ranged Bite, Tail Slap, Tail Slam, and 360-degree Tail Swipe.
  • Thermal Vision similar to a Snow Owl's heat vision.
  • Shed Skin ability with debuff removal, regeneration, speed, and a decoy skin.
  • Hypnosis that can put creatures and players to sleep.
  • Grab, squeeze, slam, swallow, digest, and regurgitate mechanics.
  • Constriction against sufficiently large creatures.
  • Redwood tree climbing.
  • Gatling Gun and Pulse Gun tail attachments.
  • AI-controlled ranged targeting options.
  • Weapon overheating and configurable damage.
  • Randomized pattern variants for breeding, colors, and mutations.
  • Custom taming based on snake charming and musical note matching.

Stances & Abilities

Gigantophis has several stances designed for different situations. The Admin Panel can configure many of the mechanics and balance values described below.

Python Stance

Gigantophis keeps its head and body low to the ground, providing a stealthier movement style.

  • Standard Bite: A regular close-range bite.
  • Tail Slap: A medium-range attack that deals damage and stun.
  • Tail Swipe: A large 360-degree area attack with strong knockback.
  • Shed Skin: Removes negative debuffs, improves movement speed and health/stamina regeneration, and leaves behind a decoy that can distract enemies.
  • Climb or Constrict: Aim at a valid redwood tree to climb it or a sufficiently large creature to constrict it.
  • Thermal Vision: Highlights nearby heat signatures.
  • Enter Cobra Stance: Raises the head and transitions into Cobra Stance.

Constriction rapidly drains the victim's oxygen before dealing suffocation damage. It also consumes Gigantophis's stamina. If its stamina is depleted, the victim is released and receives a temporary grace-period cooldown before it can be constricted again.

Cobra Stance

Cobra Stance raises Gigantophis's head and serves as the primary transition stance for grabbing targets and entering its stationary modes.

  • Standard Bite
  • Tail Slap
  • Tail Swipe
  • Grab a creature or player
  • Enter Python Stance
  • Enter Coiled Stance

Coiled Stance

Coiled Stance prevents normal movement and focuses on ranged melee attacks, hypnosis, and entry into Gun Mode.

  • Ranged Bite: A bite with increased reach.
  • Tail Slam: A large-range attack that deals damage and stun.
  • Turn in Place: Rotate while remaining coiled.
  • Hypnotize: Builds hypnosis on creatures or players in front of Gigantophis.
  • Enter Gun Mode: Available when a compatible tail gun is equipped.
  • Return to Cobra Stance

Hypnosis requires a clear line of sight and takes time to build. Victims can counter it by looking away, moving behind Gigantophis, breaking its view, impairing their vision, or using effects such as beer or rare mushrooms.

Grab Stance

Gigantophis cannot move normally while holding a creature or player. Human victims can struggle to escape, and dealing enough damage to Gigantophis will force it to release its target.

  • Squeeze: Slowly suffocates the held victim.
  • Tail Slam: Slams the victim against the ground.
  • Swallow: Available when the victim reaches the required health threshold.
  • Hypnotize: Applies hypnosis directly to the held target.
  • Release: Drops the victim and returns to Cobra Stance.

Swallowed creatures become inventory items while being digested. Their drag weight contributes to Gigantophis's carried weight. Using the swallowed-creature item forces Gigantophis to regurgitate the victim.

Fully digesting a creature produces a Gigantophis Pellet that can be redeemed for loot. The potential reward is based on the swallowed creature's level and drag weight.

Gun Mode

Gun Mode is stationary and requires a compatible tail weapon and ammunition.

  • Semi-automatic fire
  • Fully automatic fire
  • AI-controlled targeting
  • Configurable targeting preferences
  • Configurable weapon damage
  • Overheating during extended automatic fire
  • Return to Coiled Stance

Tail-Mounted Weapons

Gatling Gun

The Gatling Gun uses custom ammunition and combines a high rate of fire with lower per-shot damage and moderate spread. It is best suited to close- and medium-range combat, anti-flyer defense, and targeting riders. Its bulk also provides Gigantophis with additional armor.

Pulse Gun

The Pulse Gun launches high-velocity plasma projectiles that deal heavy direct and splash damage. Its slower fire rate and more expensive ammunition make it better suited to siege and anti-creature combat than close-range fighting. It also provides additional armor.

Where Does Gigantophis Spawn?

Gigantophis spawns in jungle and redwood regions on:

  • All Maps.
  • Twitch Bio Zone
  • Deserts / Dunes
  • Forests
  • Bogs
  • Jungles

Wild Gigantophis are highly aggressive. Approach with caution.

How to Tame Gigantophis

Gigantophis uses a custom taming process inspired by traditional snake charming.

  1. Craft a Gigantophis Snake Flute.
  2. Approach from a safe distance and play the flute to capture the Gigantophis's attention.
  3. Once charmed, a taming prompt appears. The Gigantophis begins swaying its head and approaches in a raised cobra-like posture.
  4. Allow it to grab you while keeping the flute available.
  5. Watch the shapes created by its head movements.
  6. Use the flute to play the corresponding musical notes shown on your HUD.
  7. Successfully complete the sequence to tame the Gigantophis.

Important Taming Notes

  • If the shape prompts fail to appear, unequip and re-equip the flute.
  • To cancel the taming attempt, unequip the flute and rapidly punch Gigantophis until it releases you.
  • Nearby creatures should not attack you or Gigantophis during the taming sequence unless provoked.

Admin Panel, Settings & Spawn Codes

Server administrators can access Moro's Admin Panel through the player radial wheel while using admin privileges.

The Admin Panel provides a simple interface for:

  • Spawning Gigantophis and mod items.
  • Accessing mod content without manually entering long commands.
  • Adjusting Gigantophis damage and other balance values.
  • Configuring weapon-related settings.
  • Controlling AI targeting behavior.
  • Managing additional supported mod features.

All creature commands, engram commands, GFI commands, full Blueprint GiveItem commands, asset paths, and configuration information are organized in the Complete Mod Guide.
