ANNOUNCEMENT: Sorry for the radio silence, life has been... let's just go with 'interesting' for brevity. In the time I've been gone (again) though, it seems WC has gone and made some decisions that make me not want to touch Ark anymore... I can't see myself enjoying this game again to be honest, so I zipped up the source files for this mod and am open sourcing it (again, but the latest mod version this time).
Here's a link to the Google Drive download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qFdtYrYu11Dhq1MRIbPTXV9HFy6uBeAc/view?usp=sharing
Anyone who wants to use this, it should work if you just unzip it so the 'ImmersiveFlight' folder is in your Projects\ShooterGame\Mods folder. It's definitely not up-to-date, I'm not sure what work it would take to make it fully functional for the latest ASA but it's commented in the more confusing areas. However you use the files inside, I wish you luck! Maybe if my life decides to be more steady for a while maybe you'll see one of my non-Ark projects come to light, that'd be pretty cool. Thanks for enjoying my mod while it worked though, all the best <3
Original Mod Description:
Tired of your flyers fly-swimming? Think more flyers need to dive like the Griffin, but even that feels like it's on rails?
Welcome to Immersive Flight, back from hiatus in the days of ASE with new flight physics based on actual lift and drag calculations! No more fly-swimming, these are birds after all not fish!
When you start the mod all compatible flyers will have an option to 'Convert Flyer', click this button in the radial menu to enable the magic!
For first time use ==================Fast travel or die when installing on a current save! This will reapply the player buff, if you don't do this the convert option may not appear!
Your flyer's controls will change, holding Sprint in the air will allow you to accelerate, and Jump will allow you to brake. If you hold no buttons, your flyer will stretch its wings out and soar, saving stamina and gliding using whatever momentum it already has. Most flyers can no longer stop in the air, they must keep moving or they'll stall (hovering flyers such as Tapejara being an exception). Be aware, your flyer's weight will also affect how it flies. Some, such as Pteranodon can barely fly at over half their weight, and must pump their wings to stay airborne. Others, such as Quetzal, can carry an almost full load and still glide easily.
Flyers can no longer fly straight up unless hovering, you will stall almost immediately as gravity pulls you down. The flyers know this, and will automatically pitch down to an angle they can maintain.
There is also an option to switch between Tracking and Manual flight modes. Simply hit Prone (X on keyboard) to switch. In Tracking, your flyer will follow where you look as normal. In Manual, Forward/Backward and Left/Right become your Pitch/Yaw controls, so you can manually steer the flyer independent of your camera. Useful for strafing runs with Binoculars, looking for good tames on the ground below.
Flyers can now land in water without bucking off their rider! Most flyers become Waterlogged and will become very heavy, needing to swim/fly back to shore and dry off for a minute before regaining normal flight. Pelagornis, of course, is immune to this effect.
Currently supported:
-Pteranodon
-Argentavis
-Pelagornis
-Tapejara
-Quetzal
In the future:
-Rhyniognatha (I want to tame one legit first before I spoil it for myself in the DevKit)
-Future DLC creatures as they are released.
Known bugs include Tapejara latching weirdly on servers (what else is new?) and forcing riders off when landing, flyers not following correctly on servers (and deciding to spin rapidly in the air instead of move).
Also thank you to everyone who supported previous versions of the mod. I didn't have a lot of time and energy to work on modding for a while, but it seems I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands for the next few months at least. Plenty of time to get this into an easy-to-update state. Happy flying!
