Wave Finder

Quality of life improvement for OSD / Element Node waves on Extinction

This is a quality of life (QoL) mod for the Orbital Supply Drop / Element Vein mechanic on Extinction that assists in locating hard to find dinos spawned as a part of the wave.

I've always disliked that for each wave I was spending 90% of my time looking for the last 5 dinos and hoping I don't wander off too far, causing the drop to despawn. This fixes that specific problem.

To make wave dinos easier to find:

Starting from wave 0, any corrupt creature spawned specifically for the wave will start to emit purple rings after 60 seconds of their being spawned into the world to assist players in identifying which creatures are part of the wave and finding any that may be hidden by terrain etc.

To prevent wave dinos getting stuck:

Starting from wave 1, once the wave has reached below 10 dinos remaining, a corrupt creature will be culled from the wave if it meets the following criteria:

  • It has been spawned into the world for more than 2 minutes.
  • It has failed to cover at least 30% of the distance between its spawn in point and the target OSD / Node
  • The distance from the target OSD / Node has not decreased within the last 30 seconds OR the distance has started increasing (it got distracted by something).

I hope this helps remove that frustration I've felt with the wave mechanics for others!

Version 2

I've identified a bug with the default horde route manager that controls the spawning/pathfinding/routing behaviours of the horde dinos that results in them wandering off/freezing in place and basically doing anything other than heading towards their objective. After some extensive testing I've been able to identify when this happens and attempt to reset them on their path. If there is still no improvement the now broken dino will be culled.
