Name: Cassowary

Habitat: Jungles

Diet: Omnivore

Sustenance: Herbivore

Temperament: Defensive

Wild:

Of all animals encountered in this horrifying island, the Cassowary feels like an anomaly. Familiar in appearance but strangely oversized, it exudes a sense of something almost unnatural. Whether it truly is a cassowary remains unconfirmed, yet its habits and defensive nature mark it as a remarkable and formidable creature in the wild. Moving cautiously as it forages for berries, vegetables, and fruits โ€” its diet driving it to the dense jungle, where ample foliage and natural barriers offer sanctuary from larger predators.

Gentle enough while undisturbed, a provoked cassowary is fierce beyond expectation. The entire group will converge on any perceived threat, unleashing a brutal defense of coordinated pecks, kicks, and scratches โ€” an unforgiving display that serves as a warning to all who trespass. A single strike from these claws can cut deep, a testament to their power; even days later, the wound bleeds as a reminder of their wrath.

Most cassowaries tend to protect their harems and young, but among them, a solitary dominant male stalks through the territory with unrivaled ferocity. This larger, more aggressive specimen challenges any male in sight, willing to kill for dominance. Possessing sharp eyesight and an instant response to intruders, the dominant cassowary is best left undisturbed.

Domesticated:

The task of pacifying a cassowary is no simple matter. Their fierce nature lingers even in captivity, but when provided a rich and varied diet, their aggression subsides just enough to allow closer interaction. Given their size, saddling them up for a ride is certainly possible; however, one wrong move, and itโ€™s like perched atop a feathered powder keg with legs.

One in particular, named Galard, has shown an unusual loyalty โ€” a trait rarely observed in wild populations. Born from a peculiar silver egg, Galard is unique among his kin, exhibiting a level of empathy alien to the typical cassowary. His distinct behavior and appearance suggest something different, possibly the result of extended captivity or an unknown natural phenomenon. Silver eggs have been found in the wild as well, but they rarely survive long enough to hatch, often attracting predatory attention before they can yield life.

Whatever Galard is โ€” new species or mutation โ€” his existence leaves many questions unanswered. His loyalty, his origin, the strange bond he seems to have formed... these all point to something extraordinary, perhaps never meant to roam freely in the wild.

Ecosystem Footprint:

Cassowaries play an essential role in the jungle ecosystem, spreading seeds through their foraging habits, encouraging rapid vegetation growth across their territory. The source of this accelerated regrowth remains uncertain, though their constant seed dispersal offers one plausible explanation. Their immense size is curious, suggesting an adaptation, perhaps, against common smaller predators like raptors, though such hypothesis remains speculative.

The harem-based grouping behavior is equally mysterious. Cassowaries, typically solitary by nature, should only gather for mating, yet here they display an almost permanent social structure. Perhaps this strange land has no clear seasons to dictate their behavior, leaving them to adapt in ways previously unseen.

As for Galard โ€” termed โ€œgallabanโ€ as a tentative sub-species identifier โ€” his existence raises more questions than it answers. Though ordinary cassowaries roam the jungle, none possess the same distinctive traits. He is a constant enigma, one that the solitude of this ancient land offers little chance of deciphering. Too many questions, too few answers โ€” this is the nature of surviving here, with mysteries at every turn.

๐๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ:

  • Note 1. The mod development is Completed;
  • Note 2. This is a standalone mod, it does not require the core mod: [PTZ_00] Survival Odyssey;
  • Note 3. Be aware that odd mod behaviors may occur.
  • Note 4. There is no expectation that the mod will undergo significant changes, though there is potential for optimizations;
  • Note 5. Assets greatly modified, and consequently, of my own authorship. It was developped years ago for [00_PTZ] Ark Re-Evolution - A beginner and leading project that motivated the use of Blender to make distinct models, forking away from the source material;
  • Note 6. It was ported into [PTZ_00] Survival Odyssey, Ark: Survival Ascended. Although the assets were damaged beyond repair during the process;
  • Note 7. Carefully imported to an unpleasant and extreme degree from [00S2] Ark Re-Evolution: Modern Birds for Ark: Survival Evolved;
  • Note 8. Through creative input, it was applied various improvements and optimizations, making this standalone version completely distinct from its source;
  • Note 9. Due to the "relative" success behind this mod development, it is believed that there is potential in recovering assets, although these will be primarily optimized for standalone versions;
  • Note 10. Related assets were originally imported from the Atlas Dev Kit, specifically, using the Ostrich Model as the base line;
  • Note 11. Roadmap, goals, and plans will not be disclosed to protect my intellectual property, effort, and time dedicated to modding;
  • Note 12. Documentation will be limited to the mod's page and discord server;
  • Note 13. Communication can be done in Grand Odyssey;
